Helpline and Advocacy

If you are concerned about your child’s needs, finding it difficult to understand the SEND system or unsure what to do next, our free and confidential helpline is a place to start.

What to expect

Here when you need support

Every conversation begins with listening. We take time to understand your family’s circumstances, your child’s needs and what matters to you. We will talk to you about the support you want and need, explain your options clearly and, wherever possible, provide the help that is right for your family.

Advocacy

How we can help

Sometimes, clear information or guidance may be all you need. At other times, more detailed advocacy support may be helpful. Our advocates can support you to:

  • Understand SEND processes and your options
  • Prepare for meetings, annual reviews and mediation
  • Understand reports, letters and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Clearly express your views and concerns
  • Communicate with schools, local authorities and professionals
  • Consider your next steps
Our approach

Working alongside you

Our advocacy support is person-centred. We will not take over or make decisions for you. We work alongside you, helping you understand your choices, have your voice heard and seek the right educational support for your child.

No wrong question

Not sure which way to turn?

You do not need to know exactly what help you need, or whether JSENSE is the right place to start. Talk to us about what is happening and together we can explore your options and find the support that feels right for you and your family.

What happens next

How it works

Three steps, and after the first one the next move is ours.

  1. You get in touch

Call the helpline on 0161 850 3330, or email services@jsense.org.uk and leave a message with your contact details.

  2. Our triage team calls you back

A member of our triage team will contact you to talk through what is happening.

  3. An advocate arranges to meet

A member of the advocacy team will then contact you to arrange a time to meet.
